What does “me queda bien” mean in Spanish?

Most learners meet quedar as “to stay” or “to arrange to meet.” But with an indirect-object pronoun, quedar means something else: to suit, to look good on someone. In this clip about siblings squabbling over lipstick, one insists “estoy quedando divina” (“I’m turning out gorgeous”), then taunts her sister with “a mí me queda mejor que a ti” (“it looks better on me than on you”). Same verb, unrelated meaning.

The same pattern extends everywhere: “te queda bien ese vestido” (that dress looks good on you), “me quedan grandes los zapatos” (the shoes are too big for me), “no le quedó de otra” (she had no other choice). None of these are about staying — quedarse is the one for that (“me quedé en casa,” I stayed home). Keeping the two apart is one of the more useful splits in everyday spoken Spanish.
