Entrevista a atleta con voz muy aguda

What does “causa” mean in Peruvian Spanish?
In Peru, “causa” is what you call a close friend — “buddy,” “bro,” someone you’ve shared something real with. It is warmer and more personal than the more general “pata.” Out of context the word looks like “cause” (a lawsuit, a movement) or names the famous layered potato dish, which is exactly why it surprises learners: here it is pure friendly vocative. “Ya, causa” lands somewhere between “alright, man” and “come on, dude.”
In the same exchange you also hear “cállate que palteas” — stop it, you’re embarrassing me. “Paltear(se)” comes from “palta” (avocado) and means to embarrass or cringe; “¡qué palta!” is “how embarrassing!” Both are food-derived Peruvian slang. Featuring “causa” here because it is the reusable form of address; just don’t expect it to travel — outside Peru it simply means cause or the potato dish.
