“Chancleta” (or “chancla”) just means a sandal or flip-flop. But across Latino households it carries a whole comic mythology: the rubber sandal a parent whips off to discipline a misbehaving kid. “Te voy a poner a bailar con la chancleta” — I’ll make you dance with the flip-flop — is mock-menace, the universal shorthand for “you’re in trouble.” It’s become a meme as much as a word.

You’ll meet its cousins constantly: “chancletas” for beach sandals, “chancletear” for shuffling around in them. The discipline sense is affectionate exaggeration in most modern use. The clip stacks more family slang — “primos” (cousins), kids glued to a TikTok “baile” — around the threat of the chancleta.
