Backpanne im Stress: Teig geht einfach nicht auf

What does “versemmelt” mean in German?
Versemmeln is an informal way to say someone messed something up — often through their own mistake rather than bad luck. You will hear it when someone is frustrated with themselves: an exam they did badly, a recipe they ruined, a task that went wrong. It sounds casual and a little fed up.
In the clip: “Ich weiß nicht, was ich da schon wieder versemmelt hab.” — “I don’t know what I’ve messed up again this time.” It usually points at your own mistake rather than bad luck. “Ich hab die Prüfung versemmelt.” = “I botched the exam.” “Sorry, ich hab das versemmelt.” = “Sorry, I screwed that up.” Note the “schon wieder” (yet again) next to it — that pairing signals a repeated, frustrating fail, exactly the speaker’s mood here. The base word “Semmel” is a bread roll, but “versemmeln” has nothing to do with bread; just learn it as “to botch / mess up.” It’s casual, so use it with friends, not in formal writing.
